Remember back in the day when the NBA Slam Dunk Contest was the best and most highly anticipated event of the NBA All-Star weekend? It was so great that if you asked most sports fans, they’d probably rank the Slam Dunk Contest as the best all-star event of ALL the sports. But in recent years, it’s been a let down. It lacks the same level of creativity, originality, and athleticism that we’ve grown accustomed to.
Lately the NBA’s had a difficult time convincing its best dunkers to participate. Players prefer to sit out and save their energy for the marquee event of the weekend, the actual All-Star Game. But while fans understand and respect the demanding schedule NBA athletes endure throughout the season, especially this season, we’re not exactly cool with settling for a lineup of mostly rookies and first-time participants.
If you haven’t heard much about this year’s event, it’s probably because none of the participants are household names. But, Derrick Williams (Minnesota Timberwolves), Jeremy Evans (Utah Jazz), Paul George (Indiana Pacers), and Chase Budinger (Houston Rockets) hope to shock us by putting it down the same way Javale McGee did last year.
Still not excited? Don’t worry neither is Soloman. This youngin’, who’s most definitely setting himself up for a future in broadcasting, pleas with LeBron James to lace up his Nikes, “smash the ball from half court or something”, and save us all from a wasted Saturday night. Watch Soloman as he delivers a heartfelt message laced with some well played digs at LeBron, Derrick Williams, and all of the Eastern and Western Conference All Stars. It’s great.
Now, I’m not sure which video came first, but could this staged video of Chandler Parsons and Chase Budinger be the catalyst for Soloman spearheading the LeBron James for Slam Dunk Contest campaign? There’s definitely a chance that Soloman took one look at what Budinger was cooking up for Saturday night and said oh hell no, I have to make something happen. Watch Budinger dunk over a cutout of 7’6 Yao Ming:
Excited yet?
