If you visit the Yankees at their spring training facilities down in Tampa, you might think you’re seeing double. Relax, your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. You are definitely seeing double. After outfitting coaches and retiring 16 numbers through the years, the Yankees have simply have run out of numbers to supply the 83 players who were invited to camp this year.
The solution?
Recycle numbers 87 -99 and force position players and pitchers to share. And, to further confuse things, remember the Yankees don’t believe in including names on the backs of jerseys…so, there’s that. But what do you expect? It’s not their fault they’ve won 27 World Series titles and are a magnet for top tier talent. This was bound to happen! #HumbleBrag #StoriedFranchiseProblems
