How about those New York Mets?!!!
As a privileged New York Yankees fan (hello 27 World Series Championships!), I never thought I’d see the day that the Mets were the talk of the baseball world for their performance on the field. Typically, their off the field mishaps keep all of us talking (and laughing), but after years of suffering, the Mets have made one hell of a transformation. I could be a hating douche and make a snarky quip about the 2000 Subway World Series and how the Mets should be grateful the Yankees aren’t in a position to shatter their hopes and dreams this time around. Or, I could gently remind Mets fans that if the Yankees hadn’t dumped hitting coach Kevin Long last season, none of this would’ve happened without him. So, the Mets essentially owe some of their success to the Yankees. But nope, I won’t say any of that. Instead, I’ll give respect to the Mets for ruining Back to the Future Day for the Chicago Cubs and their fans. A cool and prophetic movie prediction that the Cubs would sweep their way to a World Series in the year 2015 gave hopeless Cubs fans a reason to believe they could fight back from being down 0-3. How silly of them to think that life would imitate art, lol.
In the playoffs, the Mets have dominated on the mound, at bat, and in the field, as they’ve done the latter part of the regular season. They’ve mowed over every supposed lights out pitcher throwing their way. They’ve turned an average hitter, Daniel Murphy, into a National League Championship MVP and home run machine history maker who’s gone deep in six consecutive games. After going 0-7 against the Cubs during the regular season, they proved the old adage of the playoffs being an entirely different ball game true by reeling off four straight wins against the Cubs.
The New York Mets are going to the World Series, ladies and gentleman. And I, a Yankees fan, am rooting for them, as I have been the entire postseason. They’re the realest and the best doing it right now. They’ve earned every single win in impressive fashion; perfectly personifying the scrappy, blue collar mindset that makes New York New York. NY recognizes NY, even when it’s a cap tip from Yankees to Mets. So yes, Mets, keeping repping for our great city and go win the mother f’in World Series!
